Bonnie - The Wild Herd

Bonnie is a beautiful big black cob who was born in Ireland. Bonnie is 21 this year - her birthday is 24th August 2003.

Bonnie had a very troubled and difficult start, being moved from Ireland to England by a horse dealer and by the time she was 6 she had changed hands a few times, was skinny and malnourished as well as being extremely stressed and nervous about life around humans. She didn’t thrive being ridden or even doing groundwork. After 12 years being loved and cared for by a Sussex mother and daughter Rebecca & Jess, they found a sanctuary to look after her in April 2021 as it was clear that she needed more freedom and autonomy. They didn’t want her being passed from home to home, as so often happens with horses when they are sold. After 2 years the sanctuary they had given her to had to close, so in July 2023 Bonnie along her 11 other herd mates were all rescued by us here at Springwood for their safe, secure forever home. Rebecca is still in touch and helping with sponsoring Bonnie at Springwood.

It is our honour to care for her and enable her everything she needs to find peace and happiness. Bonnie loves human contact and is very gentle and relaxed these days. She has bonded closely with Champ and Nemo who arrived at the sanctuary 3 months after her.

We are very grateful to Bonnie's previous guardian for continuing to help towards her costs. If you would like to also help us care for this magnificent horse, we’d greatly appreciate your sponsorship. Thank you.
