Jasper - The Wild Herd

 

Jasper is a beautiful bay 16hh thoroughbred x Irish sports horse gelding. He is 14 this year - his birthday is 2nd June 2010.

He is part of the Wildies herd and is very closely bonded with Lady, Triggy and Maisie. The four of them hang out in a group together except when Jasper feels like a boyish game! He enjoys playing with Champ and is forming a close friendship with him.

​

When the sanctuary in Sussex that he was living at had to close in July last year, Jasper along with all his other herd mates were rescued by us here at Springwood for their safe, secure forever home.

​

Jasper had been fortunate to grow up with his mother - Poppy. They both lived at the Sussex sanctuary together for a few years until she passed in 2022 when Jasper was 12. Jasper has a very close relationship with Kate who was a volunteer at his previous sanctuary and now supports us with volunteering too. She visits when she can a few times a year and Jasper is always very pleased to see her. He was very closely bonded with Zanzi who was part of the original herd who moved here. Zanzi also very sadly passed in October 2023 just a few months after being here. Three big losses and adjustments for our darling Jasper was difficult for him to cope with, but fortunately he had his very close friendships with Lady, Maisie and Triggy and they supported him really beautifully. Champ and Nemo had also just joined the Wildies herd in October 2023 and after a period of grieving and processing, Jasper began to play boyish games with Champ and it was so lovely to see him regain his sense of fun and playfulness.

Jasper took a while to trust me to brush him and care for him, even to touch him, but now that trust is formed we have a lovely close relationship. He is a gentle, caring, playful, inquisitive and huge hearted horse. I am honoured to care for him and it is a joy to have him as a valued member of the Wildies.
