Maisie

Maisie is a beautiful 14.2hh chestnut Haflinger x pony. She is 13 this year - her birthday is 23rd May 2011.

Maisie was born in Ireland and sadly changed hands several times to various horse dealers who tried to train her using harsh methods before being shipped to England as a 3 year old in 2014. By this time she was feeling confused, unsettled and misunderstood so she was stressed, nervous and very difficult to handle. She developed sarcoids which were difficult to treat as she wouldn’t let people get near to them. Her guardians handed her over to the Sussex sanctuary after a few years as they were unable to cope with her many varied needs. As soon as she felt safe in her new home with other horses to bond with she began to settle, releasing some of her past fears and showing her gentle and loving side. She quickly became strongly bonded with Lady, Triggy and Jasper. It took her longer to bond with humans and learn to trust them fully, but this eventually happened with a few of her carers. When the sanctuary in Sussex that she was living at had to close in July last year, Maisie along with all her other herd mates were rescued by us here at Springwood for their safe, secure forever home.

Maisie is part of the Wildies herd and is very closely bonded with Lady, Triggy and Jasper. The four of them hang out in a group together and are usually inseparable, all supporting each other, grazing together, mutual grooming and hooning about having fun. Maisie is very gentle, sensitive and kind with people too once she has decided you are someone to trust, someone who will listen to her and allow her free choice and autonomy over her body. Her sarcoids greatly reduced and almost disappeared this summer which was exciting to see, but they still flare up and cause her discomfort from time to time. We have regular advice from the vets and treat them holistically, with both internal and external support. She is very adept at self selecting the herbs and lotions she needs to help her healing and she appreciates being given this choice. Maisie also struggles with muscular skeletal difficulties, especially when lifting legs to have her hooves trimmed, so we are supporting her with bodywork and healing which is helping her to move more freely.

Maisie loves standing peacefully with people not touching her but enjoying each other’s company.  She also loves hay cobs, apples, carrots and various healing herbs which she self selects to support her health.

We love having Maisie as an integral part of the Wildies and would love your support helping us to care for her. If you’d like to sponsor her, please get in touch. Thank you.
